The Benton Vol. Fire Co. is actively recruiting members of the local community to join our ranks! In 1970, there were over 300,000 volunteer firefighters in the state of Pennsylvania. In 2018, there were less than 30,000. The numbers continue to decline as years go on. Benton needs volunteers like you to help protect the life and property of it's citizens.
Who Can Join?
Anyone over the age of 14 can apply! We need people from all walks of life to bring their experiences and expertise. The most common excuse we hear is that someone doesn't want to join the fire company because they can't fight fire. However, we are always in need of volunteers to help with fundraising and administrative tasks. And if firefighting isn't your thing, you may want to consider EMS or Fire Police. Free equipment and professional training is provided. This training can potentially be used to secure jobs in the healthcare and emergency services sectors.
Junior Firefighter Program
Benton is very active in building future firefighters and helping teens learn through the Junior Firefighter Program. Essentially, any teen from age 14-18 can join the fire department. They are provided with free equipment and free professional training and are given important responsibilities at the station and on the fire scene. Junior Firefighters are supervised and trained by senior members and provide an important role to the department. The fire station is a place for Junior Firefighters to hangout after school, learn, have fun, and contribute to their community. Teens will benefit from the skills and life lessons they learn at the firehouse which could be obtained nowhere else. More importantly, they will be integrated into a network of friends that feel more like family.

Joining is simple! Either stop by the station on a Thursday night or use the 'Contact Us' link on this web site to obtain a membership application. Submit the application along with a criminal background check and you'll be on your way to becoming a hero to your community.
